Ach, denk dir doch selber was aus....

    The Shooting Star

Three o’clock, Justin John Carpenter, sitting in his office-box, turns his head back from his watch to the screen. One more hour to work, he’s tired.
He has his small office-box, around him are dozens of other working people, the office boxes are part of a big administration - Centre of “The Iron Company” on Quasar.
Quasar, no one really knew where this planet was until the day of the big Resource-Crisis in 2190. Everyone was sure that this would happen sometime, but no human being really expected it.

Mankind has exploited all natural resources on earth. As a consequence of that, people searched for alternative raw material sources.
On Quasar they found Iron Occurrences which will probably last for the next 250 years.
Now we are in 2287, Carpenter is doing his job for 8 ½ years, he can exactly remember the day as the letter lay on his kitchen table. Sunbeams lighted the whole room.
He was very proud of being chosen for a highly paid Administration job on Quasar, the offer of “The Iron Company” was simple, 10 years work on the planet and after that a life without thinking about ever earning a dollar again.
An offer he couldn’t refuse! This was the last time he saw sunlight. If he would take a look out of the enormous Office-Hall which only consists of glass, he would only see the deep black Universe and some lonely little stars far away.
Someone was walking by, “Hey Johnny, working overtime again?” “Ah no, it’s okay I only have to check one more table.”

“Only one more table, he never did anything else than checking tables.” Of course this isn’t hard work but he never found a mistake, so he sees his activity as useless.
Every single piece of iron which was diminished here reached the earth, UNTIL last Friday the craziest day he experienced on this lifeless, metallic, rust-red planet.
A worker, hardly 30 years old, died in a mine, he has fallen 40 feet deep into a shut down lug. Something like that never happened before, it seemed like an accident but nobody found an explanation for what he was doing at that lug.
At the same day, it was the first time that the number of the exported units did not agree with the number of the diminished units.
He has almost forgotten this, but now he sees the same mistake again. Last time his boss didn’t take care of it because he had enough stress with the death and reacted annoyed.
Justin John Carpenter doesn’t want to annoy his boss, so he decided to call Sue Ginsberg who does the same job for another division.

He got to know her a few weeks ago during a meeting.
As he saw Sue, he suddenly recognised that there was something else than this cold and grey mass of people. She radiated something warm to him.
Because of that he asked her how long she is living here. They came into a discussion, which was interrupted very soon because the meeting started.

As he dialled her number he was a little bit excited, but this thoughts flew away as he heard her voice saying,
“The Iron Company, Division 154 what can I do for you?”
“Hi Sue, Justin here, can you remember me?”
After a short moment of silence she said:
    “Eh…”
“We saw us at the last meeting; I was sitting next to you.”
“Ah, Hi Justin, I didn’t expect a call from you, can I help you?”
“I have some units missing, did you have something comparable?”
“Yeees… I had…, don’t worry about it, it occurs sometimes. By the way, what do you think about taking lunch together in the cafeteria tomorrow?”
Justin John Carpenters heartbeat went faster.
“Yes, good idea. Tomorrow at twelve o’clock in the cafeteria? Then we can talk about this more detailed.”
    “All right!”
“Okay, see you tomorrow – Bye.”
    “Bye”

Sue Ginsberg hang up. She didn’t think that there were workers left which do their work conscientiously. She organises Iron-Thefts for almost two years now and everything ran perfectly and without problems. And like the coincidence wants it, the first person who notices something lands directly in her arms.
The fact that he seems to be interested in her, would only simplify her situation and she cannot deny that he’s an attractive man.
It would be very easy to convince him that everything’s all right.
Nevertheless she felt anxiety, as she entered the cafeteria and looked for Justin…

Justin was sitting in front of his Coke. He was very early because he was so nervous. In his boredom he was staring at his soft drink, the black colour and the small fast ascending Carbonic acid balls, remind him of shooting stars which are glowing in the Universe.
He is torn out of his thoughts as she enters the room which is filled with clouds of cigarette smoke.

    S.G: “Hi Justin!”
J.J.C: “Hi Sue, nice to see you.”
S.G: “I’m hungry, let’s get something to eat.”
    J.J.C: “Okay.”

Sue and Justin walk to the Serve Machine and select their menus. Both of them get a box with a transparent paste, Sue selected Chilli-Con-Carne Taste and Justin wanted French Fries with shred.
After a long harmonious lunch, Sue suggested to go for a walk. “This isn’t the friendliest area, for a walk, where shall we go?” Sue answered with a smile: “I can show you the mines like you never have seen them before.”
He agrees and they left the cafeteria.

After ten minutes they had passed all security checks, “The Iron Company” Logo was only a small point behind of them.
Carpenter was happy, he forgot everything around him, there was no time, there were no missing units and he also didn’t recognise where they were going. They are alone as Sue said:
“Did you ever see this graveyard of lugs?” He took a look around, thousands of shutted down lugs.
He looks into her big blue eyes, as the truth hits him like a flash. He was paralysed, unable to do anything, he sees her head coming closer and closer, she kisses him and only a second later pushes him into a deep lug.

While he was falling, he sees only the darkness around him, there are no shooting stars…

    Hi,

    ;=)

Also auch mal von mir ein Vorschlag:

    Zeit: 2004

    Ort: Mexico City

    Story:

    ........FORTSETZUNG.....
